Adam Wiltzie e Dustin O’Halloran tornano con il loro secondo album di studio, Atomos, in uscita il 7 ottobre per Erased Tapes Records/Self. Una perla di musica neoclassica, che vede il già noto duo sperimentare con tecnologie d’avanguardia e spingersi oltre il confine dell’immaginabile, arrivando persino a toccare elementi di dance contemporanea. Un viaggio sonoro, come si è soliti aspettarsi da Adam e Dustin, in arte A Winged Victory For The Sullen, arricchito dalla preziosa collaborazione di Francesco Donadello che ne ha curato il mixing.  Atomos arriva a pochi mesi dalla pubblicazione dell’EP Atomos VII, contenente le musiche per lo spettacolo di danza Atomos, ad opera di Wayne McGregor.

A Winged Victory For The Sullen nasce nel 2011 e l’omonimo disco ottiene uno strepitoso successo da parte dei media più influenti (an immersive, and inevitably cinematic, ambient gem – Mojo). Il disco arriva alle orecchie di Wayne McGregor, fondatore della Random Dance Company e coreografo residente al Royal Ballet di Londra, il quale mette il disco a ripetizione durante le prove del corpo di ballo. L’esperimento è strabiliante e da qui nasce una prolifica collaborazione tra il coreografo ed il duo neo-classico, il quale, nella più totale libertà artistica e musicale, compone la colonna sonora per la nuova opera di McGregor: 60 minuti di pura magia, registrati in quattro mesi tra Bruxelles, Berlino e Reykjavik, con l’aiuto di Francesco Donadello (sound engineer). 

Durante le registrazioni Adam e Dustin si rendono conto di avere abbastanza materiale per un secondo disco di studio, e da qui nasce Atomos. McGregor ha dato al duo la giusta ispirazione per esplorare nuovi territori sonori,  tra elettronica e musica da camera, tra intrecci sperimentali e partiture musicali minimali.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

A Winged Victory For The Sullen is the collaboration between Stars Of The Lid founder, Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie, and composer, Dustin O’Halloran. On May 24th 2007, in Bologna, Italy, Adam was on tour and playing with the late Mark Linkous & Sparklehorse, on what would be their final European tour. That night Adam invited friend and colleague Francesco Donadello to see the concert, and Francesco's guest this evening was composer Dustin O'Halloran. Through a strange twist of backstage conversations, a curious friendship began that now has brought forth an offspring of truly curative compositions for the world to savour. The duo agreed to leave the comfort zone of their home studios and develop the recordings with the help of large acoustic spaces, including the famed Grunewald Church in Berlin and the historic East Berlin DDR radio studios along the River Spree. The final result was seven landscapes of harmonic imagination. Since 2011 they have toured the world playing almost 100 concerts. In 2013 they caught the ear of Wayne McGregor who is known for his choreography work on the Radiohead video 'Lotus Flower' and 'Ingenue’ by Atoms For Peace. McGregor used their debut album as the warm-up music for his Random Dance group during practice sessions, realising A Winged Victory For The Sullen were the perfect fit to fill the musical side of his newest contemporary dance piece ‘Atomos’.
