September 27, 2017 – Singer/songwriter Aisha Badru has joined Nettwerk
Music Group’s label roster, and recently released her latest single, “Mind On
Fire,” a powerful track about the revolutionary spirit that dwells inside all
of us. The equally poignant music video,
which just premiered on Afropunk, was directed by Icelandic director Tota
Sigurdardottir and shot documentary style, featuring real women as they fight
for their passion in the midst of daily obligations and obstacles.
Since its release, “Mind On Fire” has racked up almost 4 million streams on Spotify and been featured across some major
playlists, including Indie Acoustic and Feminist Friday. The track also got a remix from prolific storyteller and
multi-instrumentalist Ben Cooper, aka Radical Face.
Aisha Badru uses airy vocals and vivid lyrics to draw
listeners into her soulfully emotive world. Until somewhat recently, Aisha
preferred the confines of her own bedroom for writing and recording music, but
her deep desire to connect with people through her music eventually pushed her
to share songs online. A few fans turned into a few thousand fans and blogs
started to take notice. She self-released her debut EP Vacancy in 2015, and soon caught attention of the ad
world when her beautifully moving song “Waiting Around” was selected for
a Volkswagen viral
campaign. Aisha is currently putting the finishing touches on her debut
full-length album, due out early 2018 (tba).
