Nati sul finire degli anni ’70 ed esplosi a livello mondiale negli anni ’80, gli scozzesi Simple Minds hanno scritto alcune tra le migliori pagine della storia del rock degli anni ’80  diventando dopo l’uscita del capolavoro New Gold Dream, vero e proprio inno new wave, uno tra i gruppi più popolari dell’epoca contendendosi le copertine dei magazines con gli U2 ui venivano sempre affiancati e paragonati.

Dopo il successo dell’unica data italiana, che ha visto la band di Jim Kerr esibirsi davanti ad un affolatissimo Alcatraz, Simple Minds tornano in Italia inseguendo il successo dello speciale evento 5X5 in cui ripropongono 5 pezzi dei primi 5 album. Per l’occasione la band ha pubblicato a febbraio, via Emi Music, uno speciale cofanetto, X5 Box Set, contenente i primi 5 dischi rimasterizzati e del materiale inedito che include rarità, b-sides e remixes.

Da Life In A Day a Real To Real Cacophony, da Empire And Dance a Sons And Fascination/Sister Feelings Call fino a New Gold Dream (81, 82, 83, 84), una carrellata di successi anni ’80 che hanno fatto la storia della band e che proprio nel 2012 celebra il 30° anniversario.

Realizzati nel prolifico periodo tra il 1979 ed il 1982, questi 5 album hanno avuto un forte impatto culturale, attraversando il periodo di maggiore fertilità musicale ed influenzando in modo massiccio sia la scena electro new wave di fine anni Settanta sia la dance revolution degli anni Ottanta e Novanta. Da Manic Street Preachers fino ai più recenti The Horrors: sono molte le band che fanno riferimento al sound dei Simple Minds, le cui contaminazioni sonore hanno scritto la storia del rock degli ultimi 35 anni.
